Magical part of Europe

We have just returned from an amazing holiday in Croatia and Slovenia organised by Jelena Vrancic of Croatia Awaits.

Our initial discussions with Jelena centred on our thoughts and her advice on the best itinerary to suit our requirements. Email and FaceTime proved excellent communication methods with Jelena proving hugely efficient.

We loved Zadar with its vibrant atmosphere and proximity to beautiful islands such as Kornati and Telascica which we visited on a private boat trip.

Our visit to the stunning Plitvice Lakes owed everything to our driver Tony who went over and above in his efforts to defy an unseasonal Bora wind which closed 90% of the roads.

We fell in love with Ljublianja (and Slovenia), a delightful capital city, reminiscent of Edinburgh with its compact centre and hill top castle. Its close proximity to the stunning Lakes Bled and Bohinj was a further bonus.

Back in Croatia, Rovinj in Italian influenced Istria is a picturesque seaside town and proved convenient for a wonderful morning’s truffle hunt in the nearby countryside.

All the hotels we identified with Jelena’s help were comfortable and conveniently situated.

As for our drivers and guides, what can we say? From Tony who had no right to get us to Plitvice Lakes, but did, to Miha who took us to Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj via country roads, magical villages and stunning scenery. He was great company and so informative.

Ivana, Tamara and the other local guides were so professional, friendly and knowledgeable that we got a real insight into Croatia and Slovenia and their history and culture.

It was a somewhat complicated trip culminating in a journey to Trieste but thanks to Jelena and her excellent network of local drivers and guides it went like clockwork.

We have no hesitation in highly recommending Jelena and Croatia Awaits if you want to fully experience this magical part of Europe.
