HIGHLIGHTS
As the city starts to get into gear and truly come alive after the long summers’ day we gently walk around the walls and wind through the narrow streets of Diocletian’s Palace and The Old Town of Split. The palace was built at the end of the third, beginning of the fourth century AD by the Roman emperor Diocletian who wanted to retire in his native Dalmatia.
ITINERARY
Following the legend, Diocletian sent his engineers to the four corners of the globe to find him the most beautiful spot for his retirement villa. After searching high and low, this perfectly natural spot was in fact – Split. It was here the emperor spent his final years enjoying the fine Mediterranean climate and amazing sea view from his palace.
On our tour we learn how this palace later in medieval times turned into the city of Split whose inhabitants still live, what was once the imperial residence. We walk along the Peristyle square where you can often experience live music and sit on the square feeling immersed into the great history of this magical place.

After absorbing the magic of the Old Town on this Split sightseeing tour, we enjoy a lovely stroll through the streets of Veli Varoš, a picturesque medieval quarter situated beneath the hill of Marjan. From the peak, you will have the opportunity to soak up impressive views of the city and its harbour. There is a delightful bar/restaurant at the top where you can have a drink or a light snack.
Split is one of the most beautiful Mediterranean cities by day, but it is a really unique place on Earth by night. Join me on this evening Split sightseeing tour and discover it yourself!

Magical Moonlight Tour of Split
We toured the Diocletian Palace and her depth of knowledge was impressive and her energy was fantastic. After the bulk of the tour was done around midnight we got the kids to a location where they could make their own way home and then we sat down with Jelena in the “bigger square” (Piazza) for some continued casual history discussion, including more insight into the Bosnia war. The rest of the evening was a nice combination of getting to know Jelena and having fun conversation over some drinks…

Her tour is exceptional!
Jelena’s tour was outstanding. We had taken a previous tour of the palace and wondered if it made sense to do another. Little did we know that there was so much more to learn. She gave us much more detail in history, architecture, setting, and construction- and made it interesting. We felt very cared for as she even drove us to the airport to catch our plane. Delightful lady too. We highly recommend her.

Split tour
Jelena is an incredible tour guide. She met us right at the exit from the cruise ship area. We were a small group, which was perfect, as she is very personable and interacts well with everyone. She tells you not only the history of things, but gives you personal insight and information you aren’t going to find in the history books. Very insightful as to all her country has been through. And you can tell she is well liked by the way she interacts with the local people, performers and shopkeepers…

Learn a local word
/cha-kew-lah/
noun
Ćakula is a word with various meanings. It can be small talk, chitchat, or gossip. In Dalmatia the word ćakula combines all these into one. It can last for 10 minutes or 4 hours. Informative, useless, humorous, dull, or even compelling. Often it’s all of these thrown into one. Ćakula happens at bus stops, buying fruit at the market, or in the street, but mostly ćakula is shared over coffee. So grab your local Croatian friend, sit down at the nearest café, and start talking about everything and anything. Your ability to ćakula shows you’re on your way to looking and acting like a local.
