HIGHLIGHTS

We start with Split walking tour with Diocletian’s Palace and all major sights, followed by Sinj and the Alka Museum to learn about equestrian game “Alka” – a knights’ tournament protected by UNESCO played since 1715. Lunch at a local tavern is optional, although highly recommended to try something authentic. We will wrap up with Klis fortress to enjoy beautiful views of Split and the islands. An excellent opportunity to capture some amazing photos.

ITINERARY

Our morning unfolds by getting to know the delightful city streets of Split including the iconic Diocletian’s Palace. Experience the city as it awakes, explore the Old Town and understand the city’s pulse both from times gone by and equally what makes this colourful Adriatic city tick today.

Time to experience historic Sinj – a pure treasure in many ways, famous for its 300 years-old unique equestrian tournament “Alka”  featured on UNESCO heritage list. It commemorates the Croatian-Venetian victory over the Ottomans in 1715 in which 700 locals defeated the large Ottoman army.

Step into a local tavern for a spot of lunch and try the traditional dish of “arambaši”, which is on the list of protected cultural heritage of The Croatian Ministry of Culture. The perfect delicacy every local household prepares during “Alka” week in August.

Soak up more historical delights at Klis fortress made famous by Game of Thrones. With a history of more than 2000 years, it was initially a stronghold by an Illyrian tribe, then taken by the Romans. Following the fall of the Roman Empire, this modest site then became a seat for several Croatian kings. Here you’ll never fail to enjoy the must-see stunning panoramic views of Split and the islands.

Jelena is amazing!

She served as a host/guide for us in her native country and she works tirelessly to satisfy her guests Jelena is very passionate, friendly, knowledgeable, fun and honest, and she speaks flawless English. Jelena’s service was impeccable and she has a tremendous knowledge of the history of the region. Jelena gave us a tour of Diocletian’s palace and we did a trip to her hometown area of Sinj in the hinterland with Ottoman history/heritage. Jelena also helped us organize a day-trip in a private boat with Toto travel. She also provided us with various restaurant recommendations in Split, which were enjoyed. If you are looking for someone to assist you or serve as a guide in the Split area, without reservation, use Jelena! Thank you for making our trip more memorable!

Jelena is very knowledgeable

We chose Jelena as a tour guide for Split and have not been disappointed at all. We immensely enjoyed the combination of an art and Sightseeing tour in Split. Jelena is very knowledgeable. Jelena organized the weekends main attractions for us. From food to boat trips, to art and sightseeing…. Her restaurant suggestions are very good and she is well connected to make last minutes changes possible. Organizing the trip for our group with her was fun and made life easy for us as we only needed to enjoy ourselves. She had a lot of patience with us which was very good. She is full of good humor and enjoys showing and presenting Split and its attractions.

Split and surroundings – she’s great

We were a group of 18 women, all with our idea’s, talks, and usually hard to keep us listening! Jelena is a master in combining a firm hand to make sure we see the best sites, being flexible to accommodate for last minute changes, and telling lots of interesting stuff without becoming a teacher. She guided us through Split and all the surroundings on a 3 day trip. And, she’s a great personality. After a few hours, you forget she is the guide, and really becomes part of the group, with lots of fun!
