Dubrovnik Best of Croatia tour guide Jelena Vrancic

Day 1: Dubrovnik

What better way to kick off two weeks in Croatia and Slovenia than Dubrovnik, the pearl of the Adriatic? Your driver will meet you at the airport and bring you to your accommodation. Take some time to unwind and settle in before dinner. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Day 2: Dubrovnik

Get to know Dubrovnik with your licensed local guide! Maze your way through the alleyways as one architectural attraction after another catches your eye. After the tour, you’ll go to great heights on the cable car to Mount Srđ, with unbeatable views of the city. If you’re hungry, there is no better spot than Panorama, where you can dine on top of Dubrovnik. Take the afternoon at leisure to shop or relax before dinner. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Day 3: Dubrovnik – Konavle Valley – Dubrovnik

Today is reserved for a one-of-a-kind cooking class! Your driver will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to a family home in a tiny village in Konavle Valley. Your host family will welcome you to their wonderful stone house, garden, and orchard, where you’ll handpick the ingredients for your meal while learning about local culinary customs. The lunch you make will be served with local liqueurs, wine, and homemade olive oil. Your driver will bring you back to Dubrovnik in the afternoon when you have time to relax and have dinner. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Day 4: Dubrovnik – Mostar – Dubrovnik

You’re crossing the border today to Mostar, a vibrant town located in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Your private guide will show you the eastern and western influences in the city, from the bustling market stalls to the iconic Old Bridge. Your road trip isn’t complete without a stop at the Buna River spring, the largest karst spring in Europe! Other stops can also be arranged with your driver along the way. You’ll get back to Dubrovnik in time for another fabulous dinner. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Ston Oyster Experience

Day 5: Dubrovnik – Ston – Hvar

It’s never easy leaving Dubrovnik, but stopping for oysters certainly softens the blow. Your driver will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to Ston, a small town with a long oyster farming history. In addition to oysters, lunch includes buzara-style shellfish prepared for you on the boat. After lunch, the drive continues to Drvenik, where you and your driver will board the ferry to Sućuraj on Hvar Island. From there, your driver will take you to Hvar town, where you’ll check into your accommodation. Kick back and freshen up for dinner. Overnight in Hvar.

Day 6: Hvar 

Begin the day by touring the historic old town of Hvar with your local guide and head to the top of Španjola fortress for breathtaking views of the Pakleni Islands archipelago. After Hvar town, you’ll head to an authentic farm-to-table tavern for a traditional “peka” lunch, with views of the UNESCO-protected Stari Grad Plain. After lunch, explore the 2400-year-old town of Stari Grad before returning to your accommodation. Enjoy dinner in the historic Hvar town. Overnight in Hvar.

Day 7: Hvar – Split

Pack up and hop on the catamaran from Hvar town to Split! Your host will be waiting for you at the ferry point upon arrival in Split, after which you’ll head to your accommodation. Next is lunch and a stroll around Marjan Hill and Sustipan Park. You’ll even have some time for shopping before dinner. Overnight in Split.

Day 8: Split

Today is reserved for exploring the ins and outs of Split. Your private guide will take you through the UNESCO-protected Diocletian’s Palace, the main Riva promenade, the Jewish Synagogue, and the iconic Meštrović Gallery, proudly housing the works of Croatia’s star sculptor Ivan Meštrović in his former waterfront villa. Once you head back into town, you’ll get ready for dinner and enjoy the finest flavours of Dalmatian cuisine. Overnight in Split.

Day 9: Split – Krka National Park – Split

Get ready for a road trip to one of Croatia’s most famous national parks – Krka! You’ll enjoy the day in this natural oasis, strolling along the wooden bridges beside running rapids. After the park, you’ll head to the oldest native Croatian town on the Adriatic – Šibenik. Visit the UNESCO Renaissance cathedral, palaces, delightful squares, and beautiful churches before heading to the Barone fortress for fantastic views of Šibenik and the St. Anthony Channel. For lunch, choose the highly-recommended Michelin-starred Pelegrini or one of the many taverns in the old town for a great meal. After returning to Split, you’ll have time for dinner. Overnight in Split.

Day 10: Split – Gata – Omiš – Split

Another food-filled day will be had in the nearby village of Gata, where you’ll taste wine and traditional Swiss-chard pie with a local family. But this isn’t any Swiss-chard pie… it’s a local speciality protected by geographical origin! After Gata, your driver will take you to Omiš for a photo shoot of the Cetina river canyon. The day can’t be done without a stop at the ​​mediaeval Klis fortress, with outstanding views of Split and the Adriatic. The afternoon is at your leisure. Dinner. Overnight in Split.

Day 11: Split – Plitvice Lakes – Zagreb

Another day, another national park. But this time, it’s Croatia’s oldest and largest! Your driver will pick you up from your accommodation and make the 2.5-hour drive to Plitvice Lakes, where you’ll explore the park with a local guide. After your half-day tour, your driver will take you to Croatia’s capital city – Zagreb. Overnight in Zagreb.

Day 12: Zagreb

It’s time to explore Zagreb, a vibrant capital city with Austro-Hungarian influences. Your local guide will take you on a walking and panoramic car tour, offering a complete experience of the city, including Maksimir park, Mirogoj Cemetery, Jarun Lake and more. After the panoramic tour, you’ll learn about the city’s historical centre and visit both the Upper and Lower town. And if you want to eat like a local? Don’t miss out on Zagreb’s famous cheese dish called “štrukli”, which you can find best at Hotel Esplanade’s restaurant Bistro. Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure before dinner. Overnight in Zagreb.

Slovenia Tour

Day 13: Zagreb – Ljubljana

You’ll swap one capital city for the next, travelling to Ljubljana in Slovenia! On the way, your driver will stop at the karst Postojna cave (one of the largest and most visited caves in Europe) and the cliffside Predjama Castle (an impressive mediaeval fortification perched 123 metres high). Your arrival in Ljubljana is scheduled for later in the afternoon. You’ll check into your accommodation and have dinner. Overnight in Ljubljana.

Day 14: Ljubljana

Now is your time to discover Ljubljana with a local guide! Stroll its charming streets and lively squares, across the iconic Dragon Bridge and to the incredible Ljubljana Castle for panoramic views of the city. You’ll even get to visit the museum! Take the afternoon to shop or enjoy some downtime before dinner. Overnight in Ljubljana.
 

Day 15: Ljubljana – Lake Bled – Ljubljana

Your driver will meet you at your accommodation for another day trip, this time to Lake Bled! Your local guide will lead you on a lovely day tour of Bled, where you’ll take a boat to the iconic Bled Castle and church, attractions recognised worldwide. Lunch will be had below the castle at Grajska Plaža. After lunch, your driver will take you back to Ljubljana. You’ll have some time to unwind before dinner. Overnight in Ljubljana.

Day 16: Departure

After two wonderful weeks exploring the region, it’s time to say goodbye. Your driver will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to Ljubljana Airport in time for your flight!
